Regarded as one of the most difficult triathlons in the world, Formosa Xtreme Triathlon, also known as FXT successfully took place on November 26th, 2021 in Taiwan with 54 participants with 26 that would be the warriors reaching the top, at 3417 meters high. In 2020, it was the first station in Asia and the 13th station in the world recognized by the XTRI certification.
With the total length of the race amounting to 226 kilometers, athletes must climb more than 6000 meters. First off, swimming 3.8 kilometers at the estuary of Xiuguluan River at freezing cold water temperatures and against strong water flow. Then, cycling 180 kilometers and climbing to XinBaiYang at an altitude of 1644 meters. Finally, running 42 kilometers in the dark and foggy mountain, and progressing all the way up to the end of the main peak of Mt. Hehuan at an altitude of 3417 meters.
This year, participants not only put their physical strength to the test, but also their mental strength by facing the blistering cold, frustrating drizzle, and pitch dark all alone. It is indeed a once in a lifetime experience. Athletes swim under an amazing coastal sunrise view, cycling through the countryside and the immense rocky chasm and vertical cliffs, and run through the darkness and thick fog to reach the top of the Mountain. The breathtaking scenery along the track will definitely stick with athletes as being an unforgettable journey.
Eventually, Fan Yong Yi from Taiwan crossed the finishing line at 12:59:31 bringing the champion trophy home, followed by Xie Sheng Yan at 13:08:42, and Wu Cheng Tai at 13:42:59.
The event director proclaimed, "We welcome the global elite to Taiwan and prepare to challenge yourself and bring a spectacular experience back home." 2022, #SEEYOUATTHETOP!
