It was a definitely a day of “Less cloud. More sky” for the final of the 2025 Youth Skyrunning World Championships where athletes from 30 countries across five continents competed for the 75 medals at stake in Italy’s Apennine mountains in Gran Sasso, L’Aquila, Sunday, August 3, 2025.

Spectacular cumulous cloud formations formed a dramatic backdrop to the mountainous arena of today’s SKY discipline, split into two separate distances according to age.

Overall, 239 athletes participated across the two events and thanks to their excellent performances, all teams scored points. Once again, Spain, followed by Italy and Norway, took the biggest share with twelve countries taking medals: Spain, Italy, Norway, USA, Japan, Sweden, France, United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Switzerland, and Germany.

 

The VERTICAL discipline opened the weekend’s events at the 2025 Youth Skyrunning World Championships in Gran Sasso, Aquila, in Italy’s Apennine mountains. Participants from 30 countries are present to compete for the 75 medals and world titles at stake.

Today’s race was a true Vertical Kilometer® – 1,000m vertical climb over a 3.5 km long course, pushing the young runners to the limits of their abilities, many at their first attempt in this discipline.

It’s time for the 2025 Youth Skyrunning World Championships and for a new generation of skyrunners to take a shot at the medals and share the international stage with some hot competition coming from 30 countries across five continents.

The historic venue in Gran Sasso, Aquila, Italy will play host to the ninth edition of the championships on August 1-3, 2025.

Two skyrunning disciplines: VERTICAL and SKY represent the challenge for the four categories of athletes aged 15-23 who will battle for the 75 medals and individual and combined titles.
