The weather came, 201 runners from 10 different nations arrived and set off in tough conditions, the events team had tough decisions to be made and everybody had great fun whilst the LAKE DISTRICT SKY TRAILS team kicked off the first race in the SKYRUNNER UK . IRELAND SERIES 2019.

Ένα μήνα περίπου μου πήρε να αποφασίσω ότι μπορώ να γράψω για την αποτυχία μου - έναν μήνα στη διάρκεια του οποίου η χώρα μας σαρώθηκε από μία από τις μεγαλύτερες τραγωδίες σε καιρό ειρήνης - κάνοντας τους δικούς μου προβληματισμούς να μοιάζουν σταγόνα στον ωκεανό μπροστά στον πόνο και τον φόβο και τον τρόμο της πύρινης λαίλαπας... Αυτή λοιπόν είναι η ιστορία της Βρετανικής μου αποτυχίας:

It has taken me more than month to make up my mind that it’s okay to write an article about my failure;  a month in which this country has been hit by one of the greatest tragedies in peace-time, in which my petty concerns have been eclipsed by the pain and fear and horror of an all-consuming blaze… So here goes, the story of my not-so-epic Sca-fail:

On the weekend of 14^th & 15^th July, the Lake District National Park will host two races that stand out for many reasons, chief among which is their extreme character, especially in the case of the Lakes Sky Ultra 56k. Mountain running, combined with scrambling and the volatile weather of Great Britain’s West Coast, as well as the stunning landscapes of the Lakes, create a unique mix that is sure to enthrall all participating athletes. Advendure is a communication sponsor for the event, and will be there to run the Scafell Sky Race 40k and report back to the Greek running community with first-hand experience and insights on the weekend’s longer, extreme course. Our article on last year’s Lake District Sky Trails offered an initial glimpse, but this year we go deeper, examining issues such as race organizing and outdoor activities in the UK, and also what truly extreme skyrunning means for the culture of the British organizers, through an interesting discussion with Charles Sproson, head of Mountain Run and race creator. Naturally, Greek trail running also came up during our conversation!

Στις 14 & 15 Ιουλίου θα πραγματοποιηθούν στο Lake District National Park, στην Μεγάλη Βρετανία, δυο αγώνες που ξεχωρίζουν για πολλούς λόγους, αλλά κυρίως για τον extreme χαρακτήρα τους, ιδιαίτερα το Lakes Sky Ultra 56K. Το ορεινό τρέξιμο “μπλέκεται” με την αναρρίχηση και τον ιδιαίτερο καιρό της Δυτικής ακτής της Μεγάλης Βρετανίας, και μαζί με τα εκπληκτικά τοπία της περιοχής δημιουργεί ένα μείγμα που σίγουρα θα ενθουσιάσει τους συμμετέχοντες αθλητές. Το Advendure είναι χορηγός επικοινωνίας της διοργάνωσης και θα βρίσκεται εκεί για να τρέξει το Scafell Sky Race 40K και να μεταφέρει στην κοινότητα μας εικόνες από τον μεγάλο και extreme αγώνα της διοργάνωσης. Μια πρώτη γεύση είχαμε πάρει από το άρθρο που είχαμε δημοσιεύσει για το περσινό lakes District Sky Trails, αλλά σήμερα θα μπούμε σε βάθος σε όλα τα θέματα που αφορούν όχι μόνο την διοργάνωση και τις outdoor δραστηριότητες στην περιοχή, αλλά και το τι σημαίνει πραγματικά extreme skyrunning για την κουλτούρα της Βρετανικής οργανωτικής ομάδας,  μέσα από την πολύ ενδιαφέρουσα συζήτηση με τον κ. Charles Sproson, επικεφαλής της Mountain Run και δημιουργό των αγώνων. Φυσικά, δεν θα μπορούσε να μείνει έξω από μια τέτοια συζήτηση και το ελληνικό ορεινό τρέξιμο!
